Foundation Huacaya Alpacas

Shown twice this Spring, Risa was awarded a 6th place ribbon at the 2017 Nationals - the competition was extreme, as was her behavior, lol. Then, 7 weeks later, Peter Kennedy, (renowned breeder of blacks himself), awarded her the Blue in another tough class of 7 at GWAS, which included several of the girls that had placed above her at Nationals. We think her additional fleece growth, plus some additional halter training, (she is very sweet and smart) allowed her to show her true colors. Peter Loved her fleece, and you can see why. ;^) Risa went on to win 1st Place in a very competitive Juvie class of 7 and Reserve Champion Black Female, earning 78 points at the 2017 AOA National Fleece Show. Peter Kennedy's comments: "Beautifully soft fleece, bright and soft to hand". We're told the black classes were extremely competitive and that Peter Kennedy was heard to say he was blown away by the quality of the blacks. She is slick, dense and crimpy - fine - Handle Handle Handle! From 2 classic grey parents - (Check out her dad's page!) Almost full Peruvian - Yum! She'll fit into any color program you have - and she has the genetics to improve it. Her name is Risa (think Lisa with an "R"), which means laughter, and she sure puts a smile on our faces. We can't stop feeling her bright bright bright silky fleece. Yeah, I know bright and lustrous are redundant (unless you're a suri breeder, wink!) - but this little one just begs for more adjectives. Beautiful head, perfect bite. She is growing into an absolutely wonderful young lady - She will be a superb producer for a black or grey program.

At birth, we thought Juhlia might be rose gray. But as she grew more and more silver fibers appeared so that now her fleece is like a water color with the color ranging from silver gray to rose gray as you look across her body. Check out the picture of her neck as she's being sheared. Like her half siblings, she sports abundant crimpy, soft fleece that you want to touch over and over. And check out the fleece coverage that extends across her nose! Look for Juhlia and the others in the fall shows! We named her Juhlia Talvi (celebrate winter in Finish) because her fleece color seems to be an evolving celebration of color!

Harmony was born small but mighty, with serious potential as a show girl. We love her presence in the pasture! Her fleece is very fine, bright and soft with excellent early density and bundling and a nice staple length. We're thinking fleece monster in the making! We had planned to show her in 2020 and again in spring 2021, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, the shows were all cancelled. We're so disappointed. We were hoping to get a chance this fall. But we had the opportunity to breed her to the amazing herdsire Autumsun's Black Maelstrom and we couldn't resist! So the best we're going to be able to do is show her fleece... We entered Harmony in two fleece shows in 2021. In the AOA National Fleece Show, she earned a 2nd Place with Amanda Vandenbosch noting the fleece was well organized with good staple length, healthy and well nourished. At the Gold Country Gathering, Cheryl Gehly noted her fine secondaries when awarding her 4th Place (of 9).

Carbon-Lux is a black breeders dream girl - true black with no light fibers. She's very bright and soft, and a nicely put together female. In October 2019, Carbon birthed an excellent male with all her great fiber qualities, plus the density coming in from the sire. After two lovely girls, she's birthed a MHAR Crystal Blue Boreas boy who was up and running around before he was even dry. This big boy weighed in at 21.9 lbs and is sporting a mass of popcorn curls that are already transitioning to crimpy bundles at the skin! Check him out below. We're pretty pumped about Blue's first cria and can't wait to see how he grows!

At birth we thought WOW! This girl has a LOT of fleece and the early bundling in the popcorn curls was impressive. As she's grown the fleece quality and character has done nothing but improve. Check out the bundling in the photo of the shorn fleece. Her fleece has an amazing buttery handle with great fineness and density. She's definitely destined for the show ring! Unfortunately we weren't able to show Irene in spring 2021 due the the COVID 19 Pandemic (and shows being cancelled). Ordinarily, we'd have bred her this fall. But when we saw that we were actually going to have a fall show, we decided to wait and we're glad we did! At the Gold Country Gathering 2021, Irene earned a First Place and Color Champion in Halter. Judge Wade Gease called her the complete package, noting her very fine, dense fleece, with long staple length. In Walking Fleece, Judge Ken Hibbits loved her fleece's hand, staple length, crimpy bundling, and balance, with nice uniformity across her body, awarding her First Place. Judge Beverly Brehm seemed to almost blush when announcing "this girl has amazing fleece!" in the Halter class at the CA Classic 2022. Then she went on to praise her density, staple length and character in addition to being well grown, when awarding her First Place. In Walking Fleece, Judge David Barboza noted her uniformity, fineness, density, bundling and handle, placing her in Fourth Place in a very competitive class. We entered her 2022 fleece in two fleece shows. Judge Stephanie Glyptis noted her "incredible staple length and carries well defined crimp to the tips" when awarding her 81.5 points, earning her the Advanced Fleece Award in the AOA National Fleece Show. Then, Judge Beverly Brehm noted "Wow! What a beautiful fleece! Uniform, ultrafine and excellent crimp style!..." when awarding her 82.5 points.

This girl is one of 4 very promising cria from fall 2021. At shearing (not quite 4 months of age), she displayed a very nice crimp style with nice bundling. And the blanket is essentially spot free! At the Gold Country Gathering 2022, Shayna placed First in Halter, with Judge Stephanie Glyptis praising her fine, uniform fleece and nice wide frame. Then in Walking Fleece, Judge Dianna Timmerman also awarded her First Place, noting her fineness, uniformity and consistency across the blanket. At the Gold Country Gathering 2023, Judge Laurel Shouvlin praised Shayna's substance of bone and fineness. In walking Fleece Amanda Vandenbocsh praised her staple length and bright, uniform fleece. In the CA Classic, judge Fauke Berman praised her long staple, nice character, density and fineness. Unfortunatley, the judge dinged Shayna because her stance was camped under instead of her usual square stance.

This sweet girl got a rough start. Initially, she was lethargic and not nursing so we milked mom out and bottle fed her until she started nursing. Then on day 2 she spiked a high fever. We suspect that she picked up some bacteria through the umbilicus before we were able to get it dipped. A round of antibiotics and extra bottles ensued and after a few days, the temp came down. She resumed nursing, gaining weight and started playing with the other cria.
